According to Fox News, “the demand for animal blood is a s real as it is for humans because many veterinary procedures require transfusions … JJ and Logan’s owner, Joanna Gorriss of Deerfield Beach, Fla. Said she is happy her pets can help other dogs survive surgeries and illnesses.” Andrew Mackin, an associate professor and service chief of Small Animal Internal Medicine at Mississippi State University, said some dogs require blood transfusions for illnesses such as chronic anemia, clotting disorders and bone marrow diseases. Pet owners interested in donating dog blood should know that the ideal blood dog owner is healthy and under 8 rears old, more than 50 pounds, and frequently wags its tail. The dogs, JJ and Logan, have donated blood more than a dozen times in the past three years. Instead of going to the American Red Cross or local blood center, the dogs donate at Sun States Animal Blood Bank.
