Michael Fourniret and his wife go on trial this week for kidnapping, rape and murder charges in connection with the deaths of seven young women killed in France and Belgium between 1987 and 2003. The victims’ ages were as young as 12 and no older than 21. They were strangled to death, shot or stabbed with a screwdriver.”

Mr. Fourniret, 66, is allegedly one of France’s most deadly serial killers, and his wife, Monique Olivier, 59, has been charged with complicity in five murders. She is accused of helping her husband lure his prey.

According to the International Herald Tribune, “Belgian police detained Fourniret in June, 2003, after his bungled kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl. The girl gave authorities his license plate after she managed to unbind her hands and escape from the back of Fourniret’s van.

The girl told Belgian authorities that Fourniret was bragging that he was “worse Than” Belgium’s most notorious criminal, pedophile Marc Dutroux, who was sentenced to life in prison in 2004 for a series of child kidnappings, rapes and murders.

The AFP reported that the French couple confessed they had “hunted virgins.”
