The Miami Herald reports that, “the letter, dated Nov. 19, said … Stone learned the information from ‘a social contact in an adult-themed club.’ It offered one potentially identifying detail: the man in question hadn’t taken off his calf-length sock ‘during the sex act.’” Stone has been a long-time nemesis of Spitzer, who is best known for shutting down the 2000 presidential election recount effort in Miami-Dade County. He previously worked for the Nixon White House and a campaign aide for the controversial Rev. Al Sharpton when he was running for president in 2004. But let's keep our eye on the 'donut' : Spitzer is not the victim of some sort of whisper campaign about something that never happened : Spitzer has admitted to misconduct.

The letter was sent four months ago, which started an investigation by the FBI that eventually led to the resignation of Eliot Spitzer as governor of New York.
