Bill Richardson Endorses Obama PDF Print E-mail
by Carolyn Barta    Fri, Mar 21, 2008, 04:28 PM

bill-richardson-2.jpgFormer presidential candidate and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson endorsed Barack Obama at a campaign event in Portland, Ore., today, saying this election is a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" for the nation and Obama is a "once-in-a-lifetime leader."  Richardson, the  nation's only Hispanic governor, praised Obama for his speech on race in America, saying "he appealed to the best in us."  He said that as a Hispanic-American, "I was particularly touched by his words."  Richardson served as Secretary of Energy and U.N. ambassador under Bill Clinton and has been a close friend to the Clintons.  The Hillary Clinton campaign, however, shrugged off the endorsement -- which could hurt her among super delegates -- saying both campaigns have many great endorsers.  Here's the CNN story.

I can't imagine that anyoned would be fooled by this endorsement. It is such a blatant try for the vice presidential spot with Obama. For a guy who got about 1 or 2% or the vote. Who cares? Mary Ellen

I'm sure the Gov will be at the convention supporting Sen Hillary and her running mate.

Mary Ellen, you are 100% correct. But look on the bright side, Richardson would be a great president in his own right. He's one of the smartest people in politics but he is held back by his lack of curb appeal and his wonkishness.

I still hope Hillary pulls it off.

Whoever you support Dallas, doesn't feel great to be an US citizen this election cycle? There is something different here, and I trust it'll get even better when president Bush comes back home.

Gov. Bill owes his career to the Clintons.... so much for loyalty. Gov. Bill is nothing more than an opportunist.

You folks have got to be kidding! I was hoping for an Obama-Richardson ticket all along. I hope that Billary concedes real soon to save her the embarrassment and shame of her dirty campaign. She needs to start apologizing and give her support to Obama.

Stacy, which way do you want it? Richardson endorses Clinton = political payback, Richardson endorses Obama = betrayal?

Perhaps what we see is genuine. Richardson is doing what is best for the party and the country.....

Richardson was very popular in his home state. He was a well-regarded congressman in the early 80s, long before Clinton put him in his cabinet.
