FLOZELL TOPS GOOD 'BOYS DAY PDF Print E-mail
by Mike Fisher    Thu, Feb 28, 2008, 07:00 PM

The free-agency-deadline-beating-re-upping of Cowboy Flozell Adams is apparently a shocker to the mainstream media. They obviously haven’t been paying attention to the two-decade-long relationship between the Cowboys front office and Flozell’s freshy-minted agent. I hear that Adams – one of the game’s best left tackles – is getting a six-year deal to remain a Cowboy. That follows the news I first reported nine days ago on Scout.com: that Adams has dumped his previous rep and hired on Dallas-based agent Jordan Woy.

I know Jordan Woy. I know Stephen Jones, the pointman on the other side of the table. I knew what was going to happen. And I wrote:

We’ve learned that he’s changed agents, from Roosevelt Barnes to Jordan Woy, the highly-respected Dallas-based agent with a long and cooperative history of dealing with the Cowboys.
“I think there is already an understanding between the two parties of at least one thing,’’ Woy tells TheRanchReport.com. “Flozell Adams is considered as good a left tackle as there is in the game.’’
Woy tells us, “We believe we’re going to end up on the same page. It will be better for both sides to get it worked out as quickly as possible.’’
The switch to Woy could conceivably smooth the negotiation process. … “It’s just part of the process of hopefully keeping Flozell Adams a Cowboy,’’ Woy said.

Now consider what I wrote this morning, still offering the impression that this thing was on the right track.

Two points about Flozell Adams: First, the Cowboys need to figure out a way to get him re-signed before tonight's 11 PM free agent deadline; he’s grossly underrated as a player. And second … we here it (a deal) will be (reached) by the way.

And finally, review what I scribbled just after 3 p.m. today, when the Adams situation was the last standing “bowling pin’’:

But what was all along Job 1 is now the one job left: Attempting to negotiate with Adams and his agent, Jordan Woy, to cut a deal that would preclude his free agency. Many mainstream-media reports have suggested that both parties are comfortable allowing Adams to being a FA, knowing that he could always re-sign here eventually. But that is in conflict with what (we have) been told all week.

It is absolutely the intent of Woy and Stephen Jones …  to find a compromise point by 11 p.m.

Now, I didn’t get everything exactly right. (I can’t believe I misspelled “hear.’’) But all in all – as Dallas also tendered Marion Barber and Chris Canty in ways that make it unlikely they’ll be leaving why officially cemented a deal with ex-Dolphins linebacking star Zach Thomas – this goes down as a good day for area sporties.

To make the day complete: Maybe the refurbished Stars stay hot at home. And maybe the Mavs go to the Alamo and further muddy the Spurs’ river.

   See you in the a.m.
