| Ron Paul Vows to Not Run as an Independent |

The Austin American-Statesman reports that, “the 10-term congressman from Texas has become a fundraising phenomenon, but he lags in the delegate race behind front runner and likely nominee Sen. John McCain. During the campaign, Paul brought in a record $6 million in one day, and $18 million in les than three months, though he still registers in single digits in most polls.” The Libertarian-leaning Paul has campaigned on an economic platform of returning to the gold standard and abolishing the federal income tax. On Saturday, Paul gave his stump speech to a crowd of 4,000 people at the University of Texas at Austin campus. Paul is the only Republican presidential candidate, who opposes the Iraq War and he faces both Presidential and congressional primaries on March 4. His Republican opponent in the congressional primary is Chris Peden, a Friendswood city councilman. The maverick Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul of Texas acknowledged his imminent failure on Saturday, but vowed that he won’t get back into the race for the White House as an independent candidate once the GOP nominee is officially chosen.
