Alleged Rapist to be Next South Africa President PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Thu, Jan 10, 2008, 07:04 PM

Zuma.jpgJacob Zuma, 65, who describes himself as “100 percent Zulu Boy,” has been nominated as the new leader of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) party. He will soon become the next president of South Africa.

Fox News reports that “he may be the most controversial figure in African politics – skirt chasing, self-described ‘Zulu Boy’ shrouded by accusations of corruption and rape who marches to catchy tune called, ‘Bring Me My Machine Gun.’”

Zuma is expected to be elected since South Africa’s presidents are chosen by the 400 members of the directly-elected National Assembly, one of the two houses of parliament, which means that Zuma will succeed the current president, Thabo Mbeki, when he steps down.

When Zuma, a polygamist, went on trial on charges of rape, he took to the stand in his defense and used the ‘short skirt’ excuse. He claimed that it was his duty to have sex with a woman if she wore a short kanga (an African wrap). His defense lawyers explained that Zulu men have sexual primacy over women; therefore he could not be guilty.

Actually, Zuma was caught attempting to bribe the victim’s aunt with an offer of two cows and a new garden fence in exchange for persuading the victim to withdraw her allegation. But the bribe offer seemed unnecessary since he was found not guilty in the trial.
