When InteloQuence, an Addison-based marketing firm, and the Apartment Association of Greater Dallas launched CrimeReportsLive.com (CRL) earlier this month, it appeared that Adelman was too late. However, Adelman saw flaws in CRL’s site, and DailyCrimeReport.com (DCR) was born. Adelman, vice president of the Belmont Neighborhood Association, also runs the Web site “Barking Dogs.” He is well known in Lower Greenville and was described as “an “That was really ugly,” Adelman said. “I’ve come a long way, baby.” Adelman said his original business model would have provided better crime info than CRL for a yearly rate of approximately $60. However, he later decided the best idea was to provide free membership and instead look for revenues from advertising. CRL charges $100 per year for members who receive daily crime alerts to their email, cell phones or PDAs. It also provides a Google map of the crimes with color-coded pins for different crimes. “They do all the fun stuff, but it’s by zip code,” Adelman said. “People that I’ve dealt with in the neighborhood and people who’ve called me since that site went up have said, ‘Nothing personal, but I don’t care what happens on the other end of my zip code.’” Adelman’s site, which launched Sunday, will deliver users an email with a link and PDF containing crime information for specific neighborhoods using police beats -- not zip codes. Both CRL and DCR take information from the Dallas Police Department’s Web site and make it easier for users to read. DCR’s biggest advantage? Price. “It doesn’t make sense to pay for something you can get for free,” Adelman said. Adelman has the capability to send 32,000 emails in 20 minutes and hopes to deliver crime reports to email inboxes by “your first cup of coffee.” He got some financial backers to help with equipment, advertising and some of the code, but he’s handling the rest. “This is home-grown stuff. This is personal. This is me,” Adelman said. “I’m the crime watch guy. This is what I’ve been doing for four years on Adelman said he plans to print 35,000 business cards to give out to Adelman said his goal is to get 50,000 subscribers, and the current site is merely a warm-up for a revamped site in February or March. He said cell phone and PDA alerts as well as enhanced access to the reports could be added soon.

written by D Smoot , December 19, 2007 I see that http://crimereportslive.com has a link to its website from www.dallaspolice.net. Does Dallas Police endorse crimereportslive and not dailycrimereport?
...
written by Avi S. Adelman , December 20, 2007 Let me answer both questions... Re crimereportslive (and for that fact my site). There are NO endorsements offered nor needed. The data is 'out there' for anyone to grab, and what they do with it is their business. It's not like insurance folks could be stopped from grabbing the data in order to figure out who to might be in the market for an alarm system. Re my site and others... the other sites make you go there (sometimes for money) to get the data. You have to trudge throw all the information or maps. My site is not the source of the data - you get the reports emailed to you every morning. So simple a concept, oui?

written by Dan Elliott , December 21, 2007 Congratulations to everyone in the crime reporting online arena. Crimereportslive.com has reached a milestone in only two weeks, 75000 pages, 15,000 visits and over 1300 subscribers. We are proud to provide free reporting to any visitor and offer Hi-Definition reporting and monitoring for a small fee. The data is tough to manage, as is the truth about crime. But, the story has to be told. "Tell the people the truth, and the country is safe", Abraham Lincoln Write comment
