Huckabee Garnering More Support in Presidential Bid PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Fri, Nov 9, 2007, 04:37 PM

Huckabee.jpgThe New York Times and Los Angeles Times have “discovered” Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas. Today, both newspapers printed front-page, full-length feature stories on his candidacy. Mr. Huckabee’s campaign has recently gained momentum with increased fund-raising, higher Web traffic, and a major endorsement from a prominent social conservative, the American Family association chairman Don Wildmon.

The New York Times reports that “with less than two months until Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses, there are signs that Mr. Huckabee, a former Baptist pastor for whom Bible verses flow easily off the tongue, is charming, quipping and sermonizing his way from a long shot ensconced in the second-tier of the Republican presidential sweepstakes to a possible contender here.”

The L.A. Times story by Stephanie Simons points out that Mr. Huckabee’s supporters are upset that big-name evangelicals are overlooking their candidate. They believe that Mr. Huckabee is a true conservative.

Mr. Huckabee appears to be picking up support in Iowa since he’s speaking to audiences larger than anticipated and his poll numbers are rising.

Too bad his supporters won't give him any money - like Ron Paul's supporters do. Shows that His support (like all the others) is paper thin. Huckaby can deliver some good one liners. He's good at soundbites. Ron Paul doesn't need notes or speech writers. The best Huckaby can ask for is a hopeful VP bid. A liberal cross dresser like Giuliani will need someone like him to balance the ticket. Being for serial wars, Israel worship and bankrupting this country on the road to Armeggedon may be enough for Pat Robertson, but many of the Christian Right will need a little more to stomach supporting a Giuliani ticket.
