Neumann Disrespects Hunt and Coats PDF Print E-mail
by Sam Merten    Wed, Oct 17, 2007, 03:04 PM

dave_neumann.jpgThe Observer’s Jim Schutze posted an email exchange between council members Dave Neumann and Angela Hunt yesterday on Unfair Park after news broke Monday on Dallas Arena, revealing Neumann had changed the format of his Oct. 29 community meeting about the Trinity River Project and upcoming toll road vote. It turns out Neumann, chair of the Trinity River Project Committee, was going to have a staff presentation on the project followed by representatives from the Vote Yes! and Vote No! campaigns.

Both Mayor Leppert and Hunt confirmed, but Neumann later sent an email to Hunt saying, “We will NOT need a Vote Yes speaker after all.” Hunt was never given an explanation as to why the format was changed and Sam Coats, a representative of Vote Yes!, emailed Neumann the day after Hunt’s last email to him. Here is the exchange.

Subject: Trinity talk on October 29th

Dave:

I have rearranged my schedule and am looking forward to being with you and presenting at the meeting on the 29th. Please let me know the format, how much time each side will have, and who will be there to speak on the other side of the issue.

It speaks well for our city that this debate is bringing forth all the pros and cons of the proposed Trinity Toll Road. I learned years ago during my experience in the Texas Legislature that democracy works best when there are strong interests on both sides of an issue. That brings all the fact to the table and allows people to make their own intelligent decisions. The times when democracy fails are when only one side is heard, or when there is no effective advocacy on the other side of an issue. You are to be commended for not letting that happen in this instance.

Best Regards,

Sam

Sam:

Thank you for your email. I would have called you but I do not have your phone number.

This is a community meeting for the residents of Mountain Creek....not a debate. I am hosting personally and having the Mayor as our featured guest.

You are welcome to attend as a citizen like all others in the audience. I advised Ms. Hunt that we changed the format a week ago.

Thanks-Dave

Dave:

I am in the phone book, and I am very disappointed.

As I said in my earlier email, democracy works best when there are strong interests on both sides of an issue represented. That enables the full airing of the facts and arguments that are critical to helping folks make informed and intelligent decisions.

As an elected official, it is commendable that you would choose to host two "community meetings" on the issue of the proposed Trinity toll road, an issue critical to how we define our city for the next century. That you would hold those meetings and only allow one side to make a presentation speaks for its self.

Sam

Neumann has not responded to either Hunt or Coats, showing blatant disrespect for two of Dallas’ finest leaders. This not only reflects poorly on Neumann, but also on Mayor Leppert. Leppert not only put Neumann in charge of the Trinity River Project Committee, but he has refused to step in and do anything about Neumann changing what was once a fair representation of both sides of an issue into what now is a Vote No! rally.

I am still conflicted about how to vote, but I am sure that the Pro Tollroad people are handling so poorly that it is turning many against their cause. Where are Carol Reed and Rob Allyn, who should be in control?

Is it legal for Neumann to have a campaign event in a city owned facility without both sides participating? Think about future council campaigns with incumbents holding events and excluding challengers. Worse, think about out-going members using rec centers to host events for their annointed heirs and excluding anyone else in the race.

This is wrong.

The vote no side will end up defeating the Trinity Project with misinformation and lies. It makes you wonder, what is really going on with this project and who will it benefit.

As to where are Rob and Carol --

Well you can't put lipstick on a pig and hope people will think it is Marilyn Monroe.

They have bad facts -- very hard to get around that.

Once again, this is and always was a road project from suburb to suburb that does nothing for Dallas.

Debate?...You really think these no people want to debate this proposition? it's misinformation that drives their no agenda. Can't debate shoddy facts.

They don't want to debate anybody. They want to hold more pep rallies to try and overturn a 90,000 count "yes" petition. We'll see more of them before the Nov. vote.

Y'know, second thought. When all the smoke clears, somebody should probably write a investigative piece/book about all this. There's a great behind the scenes story here somewhere and I'll bet it has very little to do with the betterment of Dallas' roads and parks.

Agenda$, deals etc...It'd make a great read.

If I were mayor Tom, I'd be happy. In fact, I am sure he was part of the impetus behind it. Getting embarrased in debate after debate has to wear on the sock puppet.

That's OK, I'm sure Rebeca Dugger will present a completely unbiased report to the good voters and tax payers up in the Woods. Neumann probably just excluded Trinity Vote Yes because the price went up another 100k, but whose counting anymore.

Vote Yes!

Neumann is a great republican leader and a needed conservative voice on the council. His vision for the Trinity is driven by his common sense and business background. Thank you Dave for being a great rookie on the council. Give them hell!

TO GOPinsider
TO MARY HASAN
TO Sharon Boyd

Dave Neumann's reputation preceded him long, long long before he got elected. Slowly but surely his inability to effectively handle himself, the absolute horrible way he treats the city staff (like peons), and his inability to make any sort of relation without quid pro quo is by no means new.

Sharon and Mary, I remember your blogs perfectly concerning this man durring the election...
Mary your reason for touting Dave was because you never wanted to see another "MEXICAN" elected to city council. You were quoted, people heard it. End of story! You said it in front of like six people in a city building. You were eventually bound to get it out.

Sharon, you endorsed Dave over Joseph Hernandez. I know people asked you about it and asked you to reconsider, but you wouldn't have any of it. You said Dave was YOUR man.

Now everyone has Dave, and I guarentee you he will bring this district down to it's knees. And as for Dave being placed as the Chair of the Trinity, my GOD the man didn't even know how many access points there were up until his first meeting.

Dave has not done his homework. He is not the right choice for Dallas or for District three.

I've been to six or seven events/meetings concerning Oak and North Oakcliff, Dave was not at any of them.

District 3 sure missed the boat when Dave got elected. Mr. Hernandez would have done a better job with out even trying.

GOPinsider, you must be a person friend of Dave Neumann's or something, because the man's ineptness is only surpassed by his absolute arogance.
