Sperm Donor, 72, To Be Father of Grandchild PDF Print E-mail
by Tom McGregor    Mon, Oct 8, 2007, 02:06 PM

A 72-year-old man is donating his sperm to his own grandchild. He has been cleared by the fertility clinic to be a donor for his daughter-in-law.

As reported by the Daily Mail of London, “any baby born will be its grandfather’s genetic child and a half-brother or half-sister to the man it takes to be its father.”

This case is believed to be the first of its kind in the UK and raises ethical questions about how well the child will cope with such unusual family circumstances.

The Harley Street doctors, who are treating the couple, claim that the child’s interests were paramount. The identity of the child is being kept a secret. The mother-to-be opted for the sperm donor after IVF treatment with the husband’s own sperm failed.

Peter Bowen-Simpkins, the co-director of the London Women’s Clinic, which is carrying out the procedures acknowledged that the couple and the grandfather have undergone extensive therapy sessions.

Wonder if the therapist explained the phrase, "perversion of nature" to the couple? Ya think?

Let me see, my mom is my mom and my sister in law. My grandfather is my dad. My dad is my brother. My grandmother is my grandmother and my step-mom. I wanna see that family tree.
