UIL athletic director Charles Breithaupt said Sunday the state-mandated random steroid testing program for high school athletes in Texas will begin near the end of October.
The football playoffs will begin about Nov. 15.
Approximatley 25,000 public school athletes across 800 schools will be tested within the next two years.
Breithaupt gave an update at the semi-annual UIL Medical Advisory Committee meeting Sunday morning.
The UIL is finalizing its $3 million a year steroid testing contract with an outside vender which will be responsible for all phases of the tests including selecting the athlete and administering tests.
