Recently, the federal government has enforced a crackdown on illegal immigration. Just last month, federal agents conducted work-site raids in seven cities, arresting almost 200 undocumented workers. Another 2,357 illegal immigrants, previously ordered deported, were also rounded up. The ABC News Web site quotes Michael Chertoff, the secretary of Homeland Security, as saying, “I think we’re talking about something the American people have never seen before, which is what to do when the government gets serious about using all legal tools available to make the law work and to enforce the law.” Chertoff revealed that there has been a tenfold increase or more in the number of fugitive aliens that they’ve rounded up and sent back. Federal agents have been raiding businesses and homes in an unprecedented campaign targeting illegal immigrants across the country. So far this year, more than 30,000 individuals, who ignored their deportation orders, have been arrested. To read the entire article from the ABC News Web site, link here:

written by Chad , November 09, 2007 Out of 9 or 10 million illegal immigrants, they arrest 30,000. Only a government bureaucrat would call that progress. I wonder if those arrested were actually deported. The fact that they already had deportation orders means this wasn't the first time they've been arrested. Write comment
