Best JV player in America in Coppell PDF Print E-mail

Jacob Morris is unoffcially the best junior varsity quarterback in America. The 6-2 junior started practicing with Coppell's junior varsity this week. He had been concentrating on fall baseball only.

The 6-2 Morris was ruled ineligible by the UIL after transferring from Flower Mound, where he passed for nearly 1,500 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore starter.

Morris will be a contender to be Coppell's starting quarterback next year under Cowboys coach Bob Shipley who coached Texas A&M starting quarterback Stephen McGee at Burnet.

"Jacob starts practice (Monday) and does plan to play in games as soon as the coaches want him to" Morris' mother Donna Hernandez wrote in an email."(I) don't know whether he'll play QB or some other position.. guess that depends on what Coach Shipley and the rest of the staff wants to do since it's mid-season.

"He decided to play JV because he loves the game and really missed it. Also, he's being recruited by five or six schools in the Big 12 and some SEC schools to play football, so he thought he better get ready in case he goes that direction in college.

"Right now, he's looking at schools that will consider letting him play both sports since he's also being highly recruited in baseball."

Morris is considered one of the top national prospects in football and baseball. Morris will be recruited as a dual sport athlete by many schools and also could be a high draft pick in the 2009 major league baseball free agent draft.

He "currently has unofficial visits set up at Texas Tech and Oklahoma State for both sports."
