If you haven’t been watching, our dollar has been losing value against the euro at a record pace in recent years. When the euro was first launched, a dollar would buy 1.20 worth of euros. Today, one dollar buys approximately seventy cents worth of a euro. The value of the euro against the greenback reached $1.3911, the highest level since the European currency was launched in 1999.

written by Roman , September 13, 2007 A continuance of long term weakening of the dollar can have serious consequences for American prosperity and also its capacity to finance its military expenditure through deficit financing. written by Steve Heath , September 13, 2007 Bernanske needs to raise, rather than cut rates. He needs to defend the dollar rather than bail out his pigmen friends on Wall Street who have perpetrated a massive fraud for the past five years. We need this recession to clean out the fraudulent financial mess we have created and get our house in order. Hyperinflation is is the alternative, and is not the answer. Our country has been sold down the river- by just about everybody. People need to wake up, or we will all get what we deserve.

written by George Chamberlain , September 13, 2007 Steve, I agree completely. Unfortunately, Bernanske is following the direction of George W. Bush and his fake economy. Bernanske will cut rate and dig a deeper hole for us all. We should change the slogan on our currency to "good stuff cheap" rather than In God We Trust. By the way, how about those lead toys and a consumer protection agency on one inspector/tester? Great work Republican Administration.

written by Cliff Temple , September 13, 2007 When the EURO was first "launched" the notion was "floated" out to the world, and to th eUS in particular, that it would trade at or near parity with the US Dollar. There has been much economic redistribution as a result of this EURO, and the press has not done a good job of telling the story. Write comment
