Despite calling Mayor Leppert’s office this morning, learning that Leppert hadn’t decided on council committee appointments and there was no timeline on making a decision, Leppert sent the following memo to council members today. Dear Council Colleagues: Attached are the assignments for our Council Committees. We will have seven standing Committees, as well as two Council-sponsored Task Forces which will be chaired by Council members, but also include members from other governmental entities and the private sector. Other task forces may be added as needed. These assignments reflect your input and our discussions over the past few weeks. Please let me know if you have any questions. The Committee meetings will resume Tuesday, September 18th. Sincerely, Finance, Audit & Accounting Committee: Mitchell Rasansky (chair), Jerry Allen (vice-chair), Dr. Elba Garcia, Vonciel Hill, Angela Hunt, Ron Natinsky, Dave Neumann Public Safety Committee: Dr. Elba Garcia (chair), Dwaine Caraway (vice-chair), Jerry Allen, Tennell Atkins, Sheffie Kadane, Ron Natinsky, Dave Neumann, Mitchell Rasansky Transportation and Environment Committee: Linda Koop (chair), Sheffie Kadane (vice-chair), Jerry Allen, Carolyn Davis, Vonciel Hill, Angela Hunt, Pauline Medrano, Ron Natinsky Economic Development Committee: Ron Natinsky (chair), Tennell Atkins (vice-chair), Jerry Allen, Dwaine Caraway, Sheffie Kadane, Linda Koop, Mitchell Rasansky, Steve Salazar Housing Committee: Steve Salazar (chair), Carolyn Davis (vice-chair), Tennell Atkins, Dr. Elba Garcia, Vonciel Hill, Angela Hunt, Linda Koop, Pauline Medrano Quality of Life and Government Services Committee: Pauline Medrano (chair), Vonciel Hill (vice-chair), Carolyn Davis, Angela Hunt, Sheffie Kadane, Dave Neumann, Steve Salazar Dave Neumann (chair), Dr. Elba Garcia (vice-chair), Dwaine Caraway, Carolyn Davis, Linda Koop, Pauline Medrano, Mitchell Rasansky, Steve Salazar Mayor’s Task Force on Southern Sector Economic Opportunities: Tennell Atkins (chair), Ron Natinsky (vice-chair), additional members from other governmental entities and the private sector Marketing Task Force: Dwaine Caraway (chair), additional members from the council and the community With seven committees and 14 council members, that leaves a spot for each person to serve as chair or vice-chair of a committee. However, someone was left out. Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Elba Garcia is both the chair of the Public Safety Committee and vice-chair of the Trinity River Project Committee, leaving Angela Hunt out of the mix. She also was kicked off the Trinity River Project Committee. Leppert has let the toll road debate cloud his judgment in a disappointing turn of events. I’ll have more on this soon.

written by Mike Jackson , September 12, 2007 What a petty coward Leppert is. I'm astonished and disappointed. I honestly thought he would be different than the rest. Again, so disappointing.

written by Observer in Plano , September 12, 2007 Wow...is anyone else concerned about democracy (with a little "d") for the constituents of District 14? There are now 14 leadership positions, not the 12 from last year. Leppert felt it necessary to split out the Economic Development and Housing committees opening up these 2 slots in an apparent move toward fairness (and probably because they should be separate). Every other district is represented with a leadership position, except Angela Hunt's district. This is definitely a snub not just to Angela Hunt, but the citizens of that part of Dallas. I know she will work hard on the committees she is assigned to, but the whole thing seems sort of childish on Mr. Leppert's part.

written by Sharon Boyd , September 12, 2007 This has echos of Ron Kirk/Con Jerk. Really disappointing. Angela Hunt already looked like David taking on Goliath. Now, he has made her even more of a heroine. Guess Mayor Leppert can't count to 80,000. She's our leader. If Mayor Leppert is taking his marching orders from Ron Kirk, he might want to look at the total number of people who voted for Ron Kirk each time he ran for Mayor.

written by John McClelland , September 12, 2007 I wonder how many more trips to China Dallas taxpayers will have to pay for with Natinsky chairing Economic Development. And what does it say of the Mayor's opinion of the Trinity River Project in that he would name a 1st time Councilmember as chairman of that important committee?

written by billy bob kismeaz , September 15, 2007 apparently leppert has little regard for the opinions and interests of district 14 constituents. funny, because that district is at the heart and soul of dallas' urban renewal. leppert is a charlatan. are dallasites such fools that they will continue support leppert, the bush library, and the continued ruination of our parks? maybe i'll go buy some crap and that will make me feel better about being in dallas. it appears to work for the rest of the dumbasses around here.
