KGBT 4, A CBS TV channel affiliate from the Rio Grande Valley, news website reports on the arraignment of Alton’s Police Chief Jose Luis Vela, who was charged with two counts of sexual assault against two male employees. The alleged victims “Eloy” and “Frank” said they passed out at parties at Chief Vela’s home and “both accuse Vela of engaging in un-welcome sexual activities.” Sheriff investigators made the arrest following a two weeks long investigation. The arresting officer Hidalgo County Lupe Trevio, sent investigators to search Chief Vela’s home to find evidence that would corroborate witness statements. They found liquor, beer and drug paraphernalia, which had been taken from the evidence property room at police headquarters, and were used at the parties. Chief Vela was taken into custody at Sheriff Trevio said that he’ll interview all employees of the Alton Police Department, as well as the firemen housed next door to determine if Chief Vela engaged in improper sexual activities against other men.
