It turns out to be a puff piece of the highest magnitude that makes Southlake seem like the suburb that Camelot wants to be. The Carroll ISD is a great school district and its sports teams do very well because you can go there four days a week during the summer from 7 to 9 a.m. and there are 80 varsity football players working out.
The high-drive atmosphere pushes/motivates a lot kids to success but Carroll ISD officials - unlike D Magazine - will tell you they are far from perfect. The ISD recently has had teachers/coaches (note the plural) arrested for having sex with students, the school has drug and alcohol problems like every other school.... it has AEP (Alternative Education Programs) for kids suspended from school ...even some of their boys and girls, young men and young women have babies in high school...
It's a credit to Southlake kids that many use their time productively but it's also important to acknowledge they have a huge advantage over many competitors to have the time for such dedicated training because they typically don't have to have part-time jobs and their parents can afford a sports specific trainer in the afternoons...the same for academic tutors.
D Magazine has set Carroll up for a big "Trouble in Paradise story" many in the media, including D Mag, will jump on Southlake when a big enough bubble bursts...D dubs Southlake as "Perfect City, USA"...The school district doesn't...
