Heflin Named ED of Texas Republican Party PDF Print E-mail
by Tom Pauken    Mon, Jul 30, 2007, 03:35 PM

Today, the Republican Party of Texas announced Talmadge Heflin has been hired as the new executive director. Heflin, a former state representative from Houston, will begin his new position immediately.

“Talmadge Heflin has over twenty five years of conservative leadership and experience as both a leader in the Texas Legislature and a businessman. This background will be invaluable in helping lead the team of political professionals we have assembled who will lead Republicans to victory in 2008 at the Republican Party of Texas,” said Tina Benkiser, Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.

Heflin served in the Texas Legislature from 1983 to 2004, including a stint as the Chairman of the powerful Texas House of Representatives Appropriations Committee during a period where his leadership helped close a 10 billion budget shortfall without raising taxes. He served as the Chairman of the Texas Conservative Coalition from 1989-92. Heflin will continue to serve as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Center for Fiscal Policy Studies at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Heflin will take over for Jeff Fisher who will continue as an advisor to the Republican Party of Texas.

Um, didn’t Heflin have an issue with an undocumented worker from Africa having lived in his home, with her newborn child, in a storage room w/o air conditioning and a leaky roof? The illegal immigrant was apparently hired to take care of Heflin’s ailing mother for $100.00 per week. How generous!

In attempt to practice fine conservative values, apparently Mr. and Mrs. Heflin stepped up and offered to allow the baby to sleep in their comfortable air conditioned bedroom. The moral and upstanding Heflin’s also proceeded to attempt to separate the child from his natural mother. According to news sources, Heflin’s own mother, by the way, did not like the lady from Africa because she was black.

Did not Heflin and his wife’s attempts to seize the undocumented worker’s child not end up in court at some point?

Some may recall that Heflin was also involved with Jack Abramoff’s shenanigans in the Indian reservation gambling schemes in Texas. One may also recall that these schemes are part of the reason Abramoff is chilling his jets in a jail cell.

Wow. Drop dead amazing. I suppose Heflin is a true and honest reflection of who the Texas Republican Party is and what it truly stands for.

Does Mr. Heflin ever tell the truth?

We all learned this evening that the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court may have lied under oath during an earlier confirmation hearing. He was asked how was his health and he responded “excellent”. That was a lie!

The facts now revealed indicate that the good Chief Justice has had seizures on previous occasions. He is not in good health! Would he have been confirmed as the Chief Justice, if Americans were told about the man’s brain? There is something wrong with his brain. He needs an MRI and that must be shared with the American people at once. He may have brain damage.

My question for your readers is: do Republicans ever tell the truth? We know the President and the Chief Justice do not!

Libby,
Saying things like "all" is not fair and you know it.
That would be like me saying that "all" democrats "skirt chase" interns. We both know there are losers in both parties.

Dr. Chamberlain,
Thank you for that informed diagnosis.

If the party embraces someone like Heflin, enough to appoint him as its leader, it tells me everything I need to know. Remember what our mothers taught us about how birds of a feather will flock together.

Byron,

The Chief Justice lied under oath and the chairman of the judiciary committee new it was a lie. Keep in mind the chairman was a Republican at the time. That chairman was on TV today saying that it did not seem important at the time.

We now have a situation where this court's decisions will always be questioned. In my book this was a cover up.

I do not agree with the Chief Justice on some issues but I did respect him at one time. That is no longer the case and I think many Americans will agree.

George Bush does it one more time. It would be nice to trust our courts and law enforcement again.

George,
Many intelligent people live perfectly normal lives with medication to control a seizure. Apparently this was a mild episode.
