Daniels Pulls Trigger on Teixeira Deal PDF Print E-mail
by Sam Merten    Mon, Jul 30, 2007, 01:06 PM

mark_teixeira3.jpgThe Rangers completed a trade with the Braves, sending Mark Teixeira back to Atlanta where he played in college at Georgia Tech. Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal is reporting the deal is done, pending a review of the medical records of the players involved, citing major-league sources.

The Braves will receive Teixeira along with veteran left-handed reliever Ron Mahay and the Rangers will get catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Class-A shortstop Elvis Andrus and two pitching prospects.

One of the prospects is believed to be Matt Harrison, who Rosenthal says Texas had been split on whether they wanted because he recently experienced shoulder trouble. However, Harrison underwent an MRI that revealed no damage and the Rangers evidently are willing to take him despite their concerns, according to Rosenthal.

It appears as though Daniels got the best deal available for Tex and he should be applauded for this one. No matter how good these young players turn out to be, Teixeira needed to go and Daniels held out for the best offer. That’s all that can be expected. I’ll have more information once the deal becomes official.

IDIOTS, I cannot believe how the trend of stupidity has continued for the Rangers since 1972. I guess like Sosa, the Rangers will get him back after he is all used up.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia was one of the highest sought-after prospects leading up to the deadline. It's a great pickup for a guy who the Rangers could not have kept when his contract ended.

I did not like Tex as a player, but I did as a person. Good trade. There was no way he was going to re-sign here. Hopefully Mr. Salt can live up to his hype.

Good, got to start somewhere.

One of the prospects is 19-year-old right-hander Neftali Feliz, according to the Star-Telegram. The other is believed to be Harrison.
