SAN ANTONIO -- We’ll do it every day from Cowboys Camp (or whenever I tire of it, whichever comes first)… It’s Four-DownTerritory! Today's edition, a review of Jerry and Wade's State of The State Address here in San Antonio...
FIRST DOWN: On Sunday, my friend Tim Cowlishaw wrote an eve-of-training-camp Cowboys column in which the Dallas Morning News columnist suggested Dallas “is setting up its fans for a disappointing fall.’’ Geez. … can Cowboys fans not even enjoy a little July Optimism for even one day?
SECOND DOWN: “A new era!’’ Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in his State of the State Address in San Antonio on Tuesday. “A lot to be excited about!’’
And that’s more like it!
In fact, Jerry was so effervescent with his Cow praise that new coach Wade Phillips was moved to say, “Hearing all those good things, it sounds like we should win ‘em all.’’
THIRD DOWN: The only real downers: O-linemen Flozell Adams and Marc Colombo (both still recovering from knee surgery) won’t be available for Thursday’s initial workout. But none of that is considered a setback.
FOURTH DOWN: Remember contract disputes? Not here. Not now. The Cowboys announced the signings of draftees Deon Anderson, Alan Ball and Doug Free and didn’t seem very worried about having the rest of the fellas ready for tomorrow. Even oft-disgruntled Greg Ellis has been pronounced ready to go.
And, dear Tim Cowlishaw, if even Greg Ellis is happy, surely you can manage a first-day-of-camp smile for us, eh?
