A German court in This conviction is the second time a German court has imprisoned Pastor Johannes Lerle for his public criticism of abortion. He served eight months in jail for calling abortionists “professional killers”. In that case, the court ruled that those words were slanderous since “the unborn are not human”, as reported by Belien. Belien says that this is not the first instance of a German pro-lifer being sent to jail for public criticism of

written by HSH , June 26, 2007 Byron -- not a chance. Dial down your rhetoric. Germany lacks a first amendment (as does Britain and other European countries) and has very tough laws relating to anything concerning or about the Holocaust. Trying to argue that Germany's demographic crisis is because of legal abortion is factually inaccurate and disengenuous.

written by Byron George , June 26, 2007 HSH, I do hope you are correct. I forsee the day when pastors are jailed for preaching about the evils of abortion, homosexuality, etc.

written by Lee , June 26, 2007 Byron, you could not have much faith i the Constitution or the values of this country to forsee such as that. Will not happen.

written by jack jett , June 26, 2007 Bryon Why are you so obsessed with homosexuality? Why does it stick in your crawl so much? And why aren't you out there trying to find homes for those hundreds of thousands of embryos that evangelicals don't want to use for stem cell research because they are human. Shouldn't the churchs find homes for all of them before someone disposes of them. Now, Bryon, would you get rid of the embryos that they determined might be gay? Regarding pastors getting arrested for speaking out against homosexuality. They only get arrested when they are caught have sex with a male hooker, or giving a bj at a public rest stop. Would you like me to provide you some examples of such arrest. jack jett

written by Byron George , June 26, 2007 Lee, I have great faith in the Constitution, it's the judges that interpret the Constitution that concerns me. I do believe the values in this country have declined but not to a serious level. I find it alarming that daily attacks are made on our morals. If I condemn homosexuality or abortion, some will call me a bigot or having intolerance. Hate crimes are just such an issue. The gay community are screaming for and have gotten hate crime legislation passed. I disagree with homosexuality but I would never consider killing one of them. I know it has happened but is that crime any more henious than the little girl in Florida being kidnapped, raped and buried alive. Most killings are spurred by hate. No need to make it any more or any less serious because of ones lifestyle.

written by jack jett , June 26, 2007 byron you keep furthering my point without answering the question. why are you so hung up on the gay issue? jack jett

written by Byron George , June 27, 2007 Jack, I guess it is because I cannot get an answer why "hate crimes" are needed.

written by Dale Edison , June 27, 2007 If you are not, and you don't want to kill a gay, then why should you get so worked up over it? Why not just let people be who they are? Let people do with thier bodies as they wish and you do the same. You have an evangelical pResident, a neo-con vice president, a right wing supreme court, republican christian governor, and a new mayor who not only is a republican but a church goer. It seems that politically, everything is going your way. This should be a happy blog. Sadly, it is not. Dale Edison

written by Paul Barnes , June 27, 2007 Byron, Hate Crime legislation is needed because some juries (mostly in the South) would let defandants walk for crimes against blacks. It is needed because "gay panic" was a defense for crimes against gays and lesbians. By claiming that the plaintiff "came on to them" a defendant was able to excuse his crime. I guess if you were on the jury you would agree. Remember Nicholas West who was murdered in Tyler? Your friends who are gay or black will be able to fully explain this to you. Why don't you ask them?
...
written by Byron George , June 27, 2007 Paul, I disagree with the need for hate crime legislation. These same juries are going to have to judge these crimes. I'm still not convinced that a crime against one race is more severe than another. Murder is murder, hate crime or not, the person is still dead.

written by Imogen Yussenfeld , June 27, 2007 Bryron; With that in mind, how do you feel about the deaths of innocent children in Iraq? What about Mr. Byrd in Jasper Texas that was dragged by a truck driven by two white men? I assume that you feel a person should be treated the same if they kill the pResident, or the pope, or Pat Robertson vs the person that just passed away from a heart attack that worked for Taco Bell? written by Byron George , June 27, 2007 Imogene The white men who killed Mr. Byrd should have gotten the death penalty. I must say I am somewhat confused by your last paragraph. Killing someone is a little different than dying from a heart attack! I think the deaths of any innocent person is wrong. Doesn't matter what race, creed or sexual orientation. Sadly, many in Iraq are being killed by their own countrymen.

written by randye , June 28, 2007 Mr. George, You aren't going to get anywhere here. These folks epitomize the old one about the left mistaking 1984 and Animal Farm for textbooks rather than warnings. Certainly at the federal level, equality before the law has been traded for identity politics. Mr. Barnes- "Hate Crime legislation is needed because some juries (mostly in the South) would let defandants walk for crimes against blacks. " and some juries do the same for other groups. The gay folks I know are death on discrimination but as a means to just live their lives, not become a protected species.

written by Mary Hasan , June 28, 2007 Byron, You are wasting your time. Anything you say will turned against. People talk about live and let live but they want to deny you your right to have your religious beliefs. I personally would like to know why gays always compare themselves to blacks. I am black by birth. Everyone who looks at me knows that I am black. This cannot be said for all gays. Byron, keep the faith. You are not alone.

written by Byron George , June 28, 2007 Imogen, There has been collateral damage in every war. If not for "collateral damage" we would not have won WWI or WWII without many more American lives lost. I support our troops and they are not baby killers. As far as the death of Matthew Sheppard, if you go back and read my post carefully you will see that I said the murder of ALL are wrong. Death penalty for Matthew Sheppard's killers included.

written by Byron George , June 28, 2007 Imogen, BTW, what is your position on abortion? You wanna talk about collateral damage, check and see how many babies have been killed by Planned Parenthood using taxpayer dollars. Write comment
