AD Day Parade/Sports heroes welcomed home PDF Print E-mail
by Dave McNabb    Fri, Jun 22, 2007, 11:54 AM

It's Adrian Peterson Day in Palestine on Saturday. Parade starts at 10 a.m. Former Palestine and Oklahoma teammates and coaches will be on hand to honor the Minnesota Vikings' first-round pick. If you ever get a little jaded with pro sports, a good hometown visit will show you how grounded most professional athletes are.

Peterson and Nike may even make a major donation to get the Palestine's football stadium covered in the latest fieldturf _ the same good stuff that JerryWorld is getting.

In Odessa, former Skyline and NBA star Larry Johnson is hosting a golf tournament for Odessa Junior College.

Earlier this month at a La Marque summer camp, Cowboys safety Keith Davis was the star attraction as he helped out a former Sam Houston State teammate running the camp.

In Texarkana this weekend, it's the Sixth Annual Hometown NFL Weekend for dozens of current and former pro athletes including the Chicago Bears' Nathan Vasher.

The celebrity golf tournament at Texarkana Golf Ranch and celebrity banquet at Texarkana College will be Friday, kicking off the three-day event which benefits the Faith, Love and Hope Youth Foundation.
The Byron Williams Football Camp will be held at Texas High School Saturday and the basketball camp at Liberty-Eylau’s Rader Dome.
The event culminates with a fellowship service Sunday at Church on the Rock.
Current and former NFL players expected to attend the Hometown NFL Weekend include Alfred Anderson, Larry Brown, Mike Cherry, Roosevelt Collins, Stacy Dillard, Phillip Epps, Michael Finn, Ike Forte, Vershan Jackson, Brandon Jones, Marvin Lewis, Cliff Odom, Ernest Rhone, Rod Smith, Limuel Stinson, Preston Taylor, Mike Ulmer, Vasher, Eric Warfield and Byron Williams.
