Flower Mound sophomore quarterback/baseball player Jacob Morris will have to sit out a calendar year before becoming eligible if he transfers to Coppell, ruled the District 6-5A executive committee. If players move for athletic purposes, they must establish a year of residency. If the move is not deemed for athletic purposes, the student can participate in 15 days.

Morris can appeal the decision to the UIL executive committee. If Morris' ruling isn't overturned, he could transfer to a private school with immediate eligibility.

Mesquite ISD names Taylor, Capps/Youngblood new SLC boys basketball coach

UTA women's basketball coach Donna Capps, a one-time girls coach at North Mesquite, and Mesquite boys basketball coach Gary Taylor have been named assistant athletic directors by newly named MISD AD Steve Bragg. Capps recently coached UTA into the NCAA post-season tournament and Taylor led Mesquite to the UIL state tournament.

Southlake Carroll named Jon Youngblood boys basketball coach. He comes from Newman Smith.

McKinney G commits to Gillispie

McKinney's standout 6-0 PG GJ Vilarino has committed to Kentucky and new coach Billy Gillispie, just a few days after Gillispie left Texas A&M. Vilarino is a play-making, passing guard similar to Acie Law IV and Gillispie likely will want Vilarino to improve his outside that turned Law into an all-around player and and All-American.
