I think America has really started to get a hunger for Auto Racing. Now, I don’t think that Auto Racing will ever push out Baseball, Basketball or Football in popularity. But it has surpassed a number of sports.

Where was NASCAR 20 years ago?

Somebody has got to get credit for propelling NASCAR. NASCAR simply knows what it’s doing. The show they put on is terrific. And, it has everything to do with the drivers themselves.

The drivers of that sport and NASCAR in general has figured it out. They have taken a sport in which the participants could be relatively anonymous. It would be very easy for NASCAR drivers to stay belted in their cars and not deal with the public. But, the sport has refused to let this happen.

NASCAR does a great job marketing their drivers. Can you think of a driver that the people at NASCAR can’t use to promote their sport? I simply can’t.

This has been a 10 to 15 year push by NASCAR. Let me ask you something: is there any sport in the country who’s athletes make as many appearances as NASCAR drivers. They are everywhere.

Not only does NASCAR have some great personalities, they have a great sport. If you didn’t enjoy watching yesterday’s Daytona 500, I don’t think you could enjoy any sport. What a finish!

Another reason NASCAR is thriving is the fact that all the drivers participate in all the races. You don’t hear about Tony Stewart taking a race off the way you hear about Tiger Woods skipping a tournament. You will see your favorite driver each and every week.

The drivers are accessible. The drivers are honest. The drivers, for the most part are “good sports”. The drivers want to win. And, most importantly the drivers have personalities.

The other major sports can learn a lot from NASCAR. It’s all about pleasing the fan. And, the people in NASCAR understand that. They get it.
