The relationship between Jerry Jones and Bill Parcells has been a pleasant one. They both had to give some ground for this relationship to work. And, they have both given that ground.
Bill, in the past, has balked at not being in control of acquiring personnel. But he has been fine letting Jerry take control of this.
What has been the question in the past when it comes to Bill’s future? It has always been: does Bill want to coach another year or not?
But, now Bill has introduced a new wrinkle that my irk Jerry Jones. Apparently Bill has expressed interest in becoming the General Manager for the New York Giants.
Just the thought that, during a playoff run with the Cowboys, Bill was flirting with the Giants is enough to send Jerry over the edge. I don’t know if it has. But, I can tell you that the Jerry/Jimmy fallout began with Jimmy flirting with Jacksonville.
Jerry is a very loyal man. He gives loyalty and he expects it in return.
If I were Jerry Jones, I’d be extremely annoyed with the thought that Bill would want to go to another team. Jerry has basically let Bill do what he wants. Jerry has given Bill a tremendous amount of leash here.
If I were Jerry this story would really hurt me. Especially after I gave him an extension and a significant raise last year.
But this is what Bill does. He has a history of this. He has always looked for other jobs while employed. It’s not necessarily surprising. But it has still got to hurt. Especially if your name is Jerry Jones.
