Jayhawks: Taking Arthur with them PDF Print E-mail
by Dave McNabb    Sun, Mar 12, 2006, 05:15 PM

Kansas hasn't signed South Oak Cliff's 6-9 Darrell Arthur officially, but it'll be the bigger surprise if he doesn't play for the Jayhawks, who meet Texas in the Big 12 Conference championship at American Airlines Center on Sunday afternoon. Jayhawks websites have been reporting Arthur's state playoff performances as much as the DMN.

Don't be surprised to see the 6-9 Arthur walking around the AAC in blue the day after returning home from leading SOC to a second-consecutive 4A state title. Kansas could leave Big D with Arthur's signature but more likely it will happen in the next few weeks.

Arthur has waited to become the nation's No. 1 unsigned recruit for two reasons. He wanted colleges to keep watching SOC and get his teammates more looks. "Slim Shady" also likes the spotlight _ which is not bad. He's a 2-time MVP at the state tournament. And he may wait to announce his decision at the McDonald's All-American game in San Diego on March 29. Arthur knows he's a draw. There were 15,000 fans at the Erwin Center for the 4A title game and the SOC-FW Dunbar showdown. Only 8,000 were there for the 5A matchup between Plano and Kingwood.

Arthur _ a Lamarcus Aldridge quality player _ has been leaning toward Kansas and Indiana for two years. He's also given thoughts to turning around Baylor a serious look. But Indiana's fiasco with coach Mike Davis leaving has left the Hoosiers out in the cold for Arthur. Kansas coach Bill Self _ who got The Colony's Deron Williams to play for him at Illinois_ is one of the country's top recruiters.
