Waxahachie and Plano West will always have their first state girls basketball title. But the question of being the top team in Texas for '06 remains in question. West has the 5A title but Waxahachie has the 4A title and a 62-60 victory over Plano West on Dec. 29 _ a long time ago in the life of a season.

West and Hachie each have Texas signees. West's 6-2 senior Kristen Nash showed her versatility with blocked shots, key free throws and passing against Rockwall's sagging suffocating defense. Hachie has senior Niqky Hughes, who moved from a highly touted North Crowley to get more room to play at Hachie with her dad as assistant coach.

But with Hachie knocking off nationally ranked FW Dunbar and with a victory over Plano West earlier, Waxahachie likely will get a national ranking in a variety of polls. West may still get one with previously ranked Cy Fair being eliminated in regionals and Rockwall ranked just outside the Top 25 of polls.
