The Chronicles of Narnia grossed $35.2 million over the Christmas weekend worldwide to outpace King Kong which brought in $34.4 million in revenues. In the U.S. alone, King Kong edged out The Chronicles of Narnia by $31.4 million in revenues versus $30.1 million for Chronicles. The Narnia film, which is based on the C.S. Lewis series, already has exceeded $300 million in worldwide revenues, and a studio spokesman expects that foreign box office revenues alone for The Chronicles of Narnia to top $300 million if the current trend continues. The Chronicles of Narnia and King Kong have boosted theatre business in what otherwise has been a rather dismal year. Munich, the new release from Steven Spielberg, got off to a good start over the weekend with $5.7 million in revenues. Our own Larry Hart reviewed Munich yesterday. To read his review, click here.
