The good news is that the cost of gasoline has dropped a whopping 82-cents per gallon in Texas since Labor Day. In fact, the news is so good that the consumer price index boasted its second largest drop ever (6%) last month as the volatile cost of energy plummeted. The bad news is that all good things must come to and end and falling gas prices are coming to and end quicker than most good things.
According to the AAA, Texans planning to drive over the coming Christmas and New Year's Holiday should be prepared to pay more as much as a dime more per gallon. Nationwide gas prices are up 4.3-cents to $2.19 per gallon. Texas fares a bit better with the average price of regular gasoline at a self-serve station standing at $2.145 - up 6.8-cents over last month. But for motorists just driving in the Dallas area the news is a bit worse with the price per gallon moving to $2.165 - up 8.2-cents. If you are headed to the Gulf Coast prices lighten a bit with Houston at $2.138 and Corpus Christi boasting the state's lowest price at $2.06 per gallon.
According to the AAA gas prices for this Christmas season will be the highest ever without adjusting for inflation. The price of oil has risen from near $50 to near $60 per barrel over the past few weeks and is expected to continue inching upward as winter deepens.
