Many fans were discouraged with yesterday’s Cowboys loss to the Broncos. But, believe it or not, I am actually encouraged by the game. If the Cowboys are a playoff team they will need to continue to play at the level they played yesterday.
In the NFL from week to week you can play poorly and win. AND you can play well and lose. Dallas played well and lost yesterday.
Had Dallas played as well against Washington and Oakland as they did yesterday they’d have won both of those games.
Denver is a true contender. The Cowboys played well yesterday. As a matter of fact I think I am more pleased with the loss to Denver than I was with the wins against Detroit and Philadelphia.
The games that Dallas played against Detroit and Philadelphia would get them killed in the playoffs. I am way more encouraged by the level of play in yesterday’s loss. If you are a playoff team, you have to be concerned with level of play as much as you are concerned about wins and losses.
That was good football yesterday. That wasn’t the kind of slop on a plate that you saw in the Lions or the Eagles games. Yesterday, the Cowboys proved to me that they can play with the big dogs. And that is definitely a step in the right direction.
The road back to respect is not an expressway. It doesn’t happen overnight. And sometimes you learn more about a team after a loss than you do after a win.
