White Settlement remains White Settlement. And the gay marriage ban is placed in the state Constitution, without regard to future legal entanglements, by a huge margin. Is there any question that Texas is still a red state.
However, maybe not as red as the gay marriage ban results suggest. People who went to the polls Tuesday were motivated mostly by that one proposition. Most voters were not motivated to vote at all. While some voters may have been somewhat interested in the strong mayor and the homeless propositions, it was the gay marriage ban that really drove the turnout. If the same proposition were on the ballot during a general election, while it still would have passed, it might not have been by better than 75 percent.
